Day 01 : Sunday: Delhi – Agra 

Board the train at Safdarjung Railway Station in Delhi. Welcome drink onboard. The train leaves to Agra positioned in Uttar Pradesh. On arrival, appointment Agra Fort. Then sparkling wine lunch at Taj Khema. Post lunch, discover the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Do shopping in Agra. Then board the train and it will quit for Gwalior. Dinner onboard. 

Day 02 : Monday: Gwalior 

After breakfast on board, discover the Gwalior city and its forts, palaces and museums.

Lunch at Usha Kiran Palace. In the evening take pleasure in cocktail party at the Palace Gardens. Then head towards the train and board it. Dinner on board. The train heads off for Khajuraho positioned in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Day 03 : Khajuraho 

Have your breakfast onboard. Then continue towards the temple compound of Khajuraho, a World Heritage Site. The eastern assembly of temples mainly comprises of the Jain temples and the western group comprises the temples which are wonderful examples of Chandela art.

You can also have a glimpse of the local villages of Khajuraho. Board the train and it will leave for Umaria.

Day 04 : Umaria (Bandhavgarh National Park) 

In the early morning you will arrive at Umaria. Gear up for an early morning jungle safari in the Bandhavgarh National Park acknowledged for its tiger inhabitants. Board the train in the evening and dinner onboard.  Maharaja Express leaves for Varanasi, the consecrated city of Hindus. 

Day 05 : Thursday-Varanasi 

Get up early and carry on towards Varanasi positioned on the bank of the River Ganga. Get pleasure from the spectacular outlook of sunrise over the consecrated river Ganga. Day 06 : Friday-Gaya 

In the early morning the royal Maharaja Express will arrive in Gaya, a pilgrimage site both for Hindus and Buddhists. Appointment the ruins of Nalanda University at Nalanda village, visit Rajgir and Bodhgaya, the dwelling of Buddha’s enlightenment. Return to the train and board it. It will disappear for Kolkata, the City of Joy. Benefit from your time connects in any recreation movement in the train.

Day 07 : Saturday- Disembark in Kolkata

Have an early breakfast. Then disembark at Kolkata railway station. Bid departure to the staff and fellow travellers of Maharajas Express. Then advance for a sightseeing tour in Kolkata. Visit the temples and Victoria Memorial. Your Classical India Tour comes to end.

Coaches and Saloons

The coaches of this sumptuousness train of India contain five carriages for sumptuous cabins, six for junior suites, two for suites and one wagon for presidential suite. The large windows of the train are indeed an engineering marvel designed by the important Coach Factory, Chennai. So, one won’t miss any scene of incredible India. All the passenger cabins of the train have individual temperature controls and prepared with state-of-the art facilities.

The amenities of the coaches are LCD televisions, DVD players, direct dial telephone and internet. In-house movie capability is provided for the entertainment of the guests. Each cottage has electronic safe and if someone wants to use different power supply they can avail the facilities of the 110/230V sockets.

Restaurants--an Echo of Maharajas’ Dining

Dining is sure to be a animated experience on board this Indian imperial train. It comprises of two fine dining restaurants that can accommodate 42 people altogether.  The restaurants are ornamented with fine art works and offer soothing ambience for a fine dining experience.

Bar and Lounges

Onboard the Maharajas’ Express guests advantage the complimentarywine and beers. The exotic bar of the hotel serves a wide variety of wines, beers and spirits with snacks. The Observation Lounge of the train is the best venue for private sit-outs having a sip of Indian wine or lazing on the arm-chairs. Games tables are extra facility in the observation lounge.

Transport for Sightseeing

The passengers of the deluxe cabin and the junior suite avail the super deluxe coaches and the presidential suite passengers avail the limousines transfer while traveling from the train to reach each destination. The complimentary sightseeing travel kits include : bottle coolers, pith hats and shoe uppers.

Guests are requested to check-in before 2 hours prior to departure at the boarding stations-Mumbai and Kolkata. One has to board the train in Delhi before one hour prior to departure. Other details will be provided in the travel documents and vouchers which will be delivered to each passenger by e-mail.

Laundry At some of the selected destinations limited laundry service is provided. One has to contact the carriage butler for it.

Internet Internet access is available. One has to contact the train manager for it.

Telephone Calls Telephone facility is provided in all cabins. The costs for external calls are not included in the tariff.

Any changes requested to your confirmed bookings must be made in writing to bookings@rirtl.comas soon as possible. The requested changes, be it name change or date change will be treated as a fresh booking where confirmation will be subject to availability. Please note all bookings confirmed are non-transferable and will invite a cancellation charge as applicable.

a) Amendments

Any amendment to the services would be treated as a cancellation of the original services and any new arrangements will be regarded as an entirely new booking. Cancellation charges will be applied as per the chart above.

If you wish to make any amendments to your booking (for example, change in departure date or the journey chosen by you) you must inform RIRTL by email at and fax a signed copy of the email to our processing office at + 91 - 22 - 2920 3267. The printout of the email faxed to us for any amendments must be signed by the person who signed the Booking Form and / or your Travel Agent. It may not always be possible to make these requested changes and confirmation on the revised details will be subject to availability.

In case any amendment is made by the client 90 days prior to the date of departure, there would be a loss of booking amount towards cancellation charges.

In case any amendment is made by the client 90 days or less prior to the date of departure, the same would be treated as cancellation of the original booking and the cancellation charges specified below would apply.

b) Cancellation by you

Should you wish to cancel your booking, you must communicate the cancellation by e-mail to RIRTL at and fax a copy of the same to RIRTL's processing office at + 91 - 22 - 2920 3267. Such a faxed communication should be signed by the person who signed the Booking Form and / or by your Travel Agent. Such notification will only be deemed to have been given on receipt of your email / fax, since we can only act once we have received the same. The computation of the period of notice of cancellation shall commence only from the time the signed fax copy reaches RIRTL on facsimile number + 91 - 22 - 2920 3267 on working days within working hours. A cancellation charge is applicable to compensate us for making the booking and the possibility that we will be unable to resell your place in the time available. The cancellation policy above will apply. 

c) Changes and Cancellation by RIRTL prior to your departure

The journeys are planned well in advance. We reserve the right to make changes to the programme if necessary at any point of time. Should the minimum number of passengers not be met or due to certain operational reasons and conditions, we reserve the right to cancel the departure or amend the same. Most changes made by us would be minor, but on certain occasions there could be a possibility of making a significant change. A change is defined as significant if it involves a change of destination or date of departure. In such an eventuality, we would inform you as soon as possible and provide you with the following solutions:

Accepting the changed arrangements or

  • Purchasing alternative arrangements from us, similar in standard as originally booked if available with the applicable cost adjustment or

  • Cancelling or accepting the cancellation where you will receive a refund of the payment remitted to us. However, there will be no refund for any service such as pre / post accommodation, airline tickets, excursions, extensions etc. that have been booked by you and / or your Travel Agent.

In case of a 'force majeure' (please refer to details mentioned below) situation due to which a departure has to be cancelled, we regret there would be no refund of the monies paid to us or reimbursement of any additional expenses incurred by you as a result of our cancellation / change.


The prices shown are based on known costs and exchange rates at the time of being published and RIRTL does not expect to have to make any changes.

In case of unforeseen increase in national or local taxation or adverse fluctuation in currency exchange rates, affecting the cost structures of your journey, the company reserves the right to impose a surcharge or revise the tour cost. 


Please note that our train operates within the constraints of the Indian Railways Network and the timing agreed upon by them. We require you to abide by timings suggested by your guides, escorts, etc. enabling us to adhere to the schedules. Certain departures would be operating in reverse with minor changes in timings and flow of destinations
